Star Lane Winery

Star Lane Winery (often referenced as Star Road by locals) is a boutique, family-owned winery perched at the foot of the Victorian Alps, just outside Beechworth in North‑East Victoria. Founded by Brett and Liz Barnes in the mid‑1990s, the estate spans around 6ha of meticulously tended vineyards planted on fertile red loam and granite soils. The vineyard yield is deliberately kept low to maximise flavour intensity in wines like Shiraz, Merlot, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, and a unique Red Gum–barrel‑aged Shiraz called Elements.

Winemaking at Star Lane blends traditional French methods with innovation—wild yeasts, minimal intervention, and even ageing in custom Australian red gum barrels, giving their wines distinct regional character and complexity. The winery earned a prestigious five‑star rating from the James Halliday Wine Companion, a testament to the precision, finesse, and unwavering quality of their handcrafted reds.
