Vermouth is an aromatized, fortified wine flavoured with a blend of botanicals, including herbs, roots, spices, and sometimes flowers or citrus peels. Originating in Italy and France in the 18th century, Vermouth was originally created for medicinal purposes but quickly became a staple in European aperitif culture. It is made by blending a base wine with a distilled spirit (to fortify it) and infusing it with a secret mix of botanicals, resulting in a complex and often slightly bitter profile.

There are several styles of Vermouth, including dry (white and crisp), sweet (red and rich), and bianco (white and sweeter). Flavours can range from citrus, vanilla, and chamomile to bitter herbs, clove, and wormwood, depending on the style and origin. Vermouth is essential in classic cocktails like the Martini, Negroni, and Manhattan, but is also enjoyed on its own over ice or with soda as a refreshing aperitif.
