Grant Burge was a pioneer of Merlot in the Barossa Valley and planted the first vineyard in the Valley in the Hillcot Vineyard in 1982. An outstanding Merlot! It makes sense that this is one of the top selling Merlots of its price bracket! Winemaker Note The Hillcot Merlot is deep red in colour. The nose is dominated by rich, dark fruits, blueberry and dark chocolate and a hint of vanilla. The soft, supple palate has concentrated flavours of red berries and coffee, with a fleshy mid-palate of dark chocolate and vanilla along with a fine grained tannin structure.. Possessing a more refined fruit structure than many Merlots, this medium bodied wine is ready to enjoy now yet will reward cellaring for up to 8 years. It is a terrific match with Moroccan cuisine, grilled meats and pasta dishes.
